lung function testing
Corporate Health Works provides screening for the lung health of companies working in Manitoba.
Workers within certain occupations or industries may be at risk of developing lung problems due to the nature of their jobs and the conditions under which they work. For these workers and companies that employ them Corporate Health Works provides:
Onsite spirometry testing performed at the worksite or in our offices.
A qualified medical doctor experienced in occupational medicine to interpret spirometry results, as well requisition chest X rays for your workers and recommend appropriate follow up as needed.
Reports to the company’s medical contact, or to the employee and employee’s personal physician.
Pulmonary Function Testing using spirometry equipment testing is performed by experienced technicians trained by the Canadian Lung Association to the American Thoracic Society (ATS) standards. The system is fully portable and is calibrated as per the ATS standards.
‘Fitness to Wear’ respirator testing includes a detailed respiratory history and lung function test (spirometry). Workplace Safety and Health Regulations specify employees must wear NIOSH- approved respirators in accordance with CSA guidelines (CAN/CSA-Z94.4.02). Health surveillance is required prior to first time use of a respirator, followed by ongoing periodic monitoring.
Questionnaires are based on Workplace Health and Safety regulations and CSA standards for respiratory health and may be general, or specific to risks such as silica or asbestos exposure. Respiratory symptoms, work history, smoking history and pertinent health problems of the worker are recorded, all information is kept confidential and conducted in accordance with the Personal Health Information Act.
