SAFETY COMMITTEE TRAINING

The Manitoba legislation requires Safety and Health Committee members to be provided with two days of training per committee year. An effective and fully functioning health and safety committee is a valuable resource as it provides a forum in which health and safety issues and problems can be identified and resolved.

Our training program informs committee members of their duties, roles and responsibilities as set out in regulations and promotes and develops skills in team building and problem solving. We assist companies to define the mandate and terms of reference for the Health and Safety Committee, to define health and safety policies and procedures, and to establish reporting relationships between the Committee and the company’s decision makers, as well as with company employees.

Supervisor Safety Training

The Workplace Safety and Health Act requires that employers appoint “competent supervision.”  A competent supervisor recognizes the safety and health hazards to which employees under their direction and control are exposed, and who are familiar with the legislation which applies to the work performed.  These skills can be acquired through supervisory training in:

  • Requirements of safety and health legislation;

  • Job hazard analysis and safe work procedure development;

  • Workplace inspection;

  • Accident and incident investigation;

  • How to lead, direct and motivate employees to work safely; and

  • Dealing with safety violations.
